How’s everyone liking two towers? I found a great audio version on you tube that’s been really fun to listen to. I love Treebeard!! Anything with living trees is my jam. We watched the movie as a family and the boys absolutely loved it. Planning to watch Tolkien over maternity break!

Yay!! I’m so excited!!

I’m loving it so far. It’s really neat learning more about this family that I’ve heard their name so many times but never knew their story. I had no idea they were in St. Louis for 10 years. Cool since it’s close to us. I also enjoy hearing the stories about their children. Sad to know Frank isn’t faithful to the Lord right now. Also so different they’re just leaving the kids for weeks at a time while they did ministry trips. Just a different time and a different “normal” for sure.

Totally agree. Beauty is seeping from the pages!

I’m loving L’abri so far. Can’t put it down. It’s interesting to think about how far downstream we’ve come since the 50’s when people were thinking there was no absolute truth and everything was relative. Holding this book in my hands now and seeing the results of a rejection of God’s truth for the past few generations and where it’s gotten Europe and the world at large.

I loved the last chapter of this book. It all tied up so tidy.

Really excited about this one. I’ve always wanted to read this book and I’m excited to do it with friends! I’ve read parts of the Hidden Art of Homemaking but that’s all I’ve read of Edith Shaffer.

I love it so much. I’m way ahead because I just can’t stop reading it! Yes the setting, the imagery. Re’s house sounds astounding. And I want to go to Venice now. Even if this is a fictional version of the city it makes me want to visit.

I’m 3 chapters in and LOVING it!

What about Mrs. Connin saying she was going to keep Harry (Bevel) when she was talking to the preacher?? I wish she would have adopted him. Although her boys were mean to him so that probably wouldn’t have been great either. Ugh poor little boy. This was such a troubling story.

Ok I had never heard of this story nor read anything by O’Conner before so once I got to the end of this story I was completely shocked! I also think I missed a lot of symbolism on my first read through.
I think she did have good intentions. Seemed she wanted to help Harry from the beginning of the story and felt sorry for his lot in life.
Mr. Paradise!! What on earth. I thought he was coming to help the boy! I guess not. One commentary I read was that he was embodiment of a paradise afterlife. That Harry was leaving his current life situation and was going on to eternal paradise. Hence his seeing his face along as he floated along? Who knows. So odd.
As far as him taking the preacher’s words about the river literally. I think Harry’s life was so bleak he probably was hopefully to be able to reach any physical kingdom more hopeful than his own.
